Career and Technical Student Organization Success

Autauga County Schools offers learning beyond the traditional classroom through the Autauga County Technology Center  - an experiential program that offers career and technical training in 14 areas of interest, including automotive, business management, cosmetology, education, modern manufacturing, engineering, consumer sciences, finance, fire and health science, information technology, and welding. The program’s 1,100 high school students from across the district gain real-world experience to enhance their post-secondary goals or join the workforce with industry-specific training after graduation. “We think we have some of the keys to being successful in education,” said Brock Dunn, Autauga County Technology Center Principal. “We’re helping develop students who will enter the workforce knowledgeable about what it is they want to pursue and be trained to do those things.”

Many of these students are also involved in career and technical student organizations (CTSO) that correspond to their career tech programs. CTSOs are an integral component of classroom curriculum and instruction, building upon employability and career skills and concepts through the application and engagement of students in hands-on demonstrations and real-life or work experiences. These organizations are instrumental in guiding students in developing a career path through a program of study and providing opportunities to gain the skills and abilities needed to be successful in those careers through CTSO activities, programs, and competitive events. In addition, students can campaign for leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels and attend leadership development conferences to network with other students and business and industry partners. In the spring semester of every school year, students from across the state and nation gather at their respective conferences to compete for top honors in their industry of choice. 

Alabama’s Future Farmers of America 

Future Farmers of America (FFA) is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. The dynamic youth organization that prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. FFA develops members’ potential and helps them discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real-world success.
